Ang-á-chheh

Kó∙-á-chheh

Simply; just

In yesterday’s post, there was the word a-sá-lih, which means ”simply”, “directly”, “frankly”. I’m guessing it comes from the Japanese word あっさり, and in Mandarin it would best be translated as 乾脆.

You’re such an idiot

Lí chit-ê lâng a-se a-se.

MTV, pimp my ride!

MTV, kái-chō góa ê aì-chhia.

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch

Ke-á-kiáⁿ iáu-bōe pu — chhut — lâi chìn-chêng, bē-tàng àn-sǹg — tit.

[Ke-á-kiáⁿ = chicks]

An-chôan khì-lông

Airbag

An-chôan khì-lông bô po̍k–chhut-lâi.

The airbag didn’t deploy.

Àm-ōe

Euphemism, code-word

In ang-á-bó· pâng-keng-lāi ê tāi-chì lóng iōng àm-ōe.
As husband and wife, the two of them always used euphemisms for sex.

Ài-kok

Patriotic; (of a woman) not very good looking

I seⁿ liáu chin ài-kok.
She has a nice personality.
